Both the harmonic distortion of Danfossfrequency converters as well as non-Danfoss frequencyconverters with additional harmonic reduction devices, such as Danfoss AHF filters and 12-18-pulse rectifiers, canbe calculated.Ordering number:Order the CD containing the MCT 31 PC tool using codenumber 130B1031.MCT 31 can also be downloaded from www.danfoss.com/BusinessAreas/DrivesSolutions/Softwaredownload/.5.8 Safety5.8.1 High Voltage TestCarry out a high voltage test by short-circuiting terminalsU, V, W, L1, L2, and L3. Energize maximum 2.15 kV DC for380-500 V frequency converters and 2.525 kV DC for 525–690 V frequency converters for one second between thisshort-circuit and the chassis.WARNINGWhen running high voltage tests of the entire instal-lation, interrupt the mains and motor connection if theleakage currents are too high.5.8.2 Safety Earth ConnectionThe frequency converter has a high leakage current andmust be earthed appropriately for safety reasons accordingto EN 50178.WARNINGThe earth leakage current from the frequency converterexceeds 3.5 mA. To ensure a good mechanicalconnection from the earth cable to the earth connection(terminal 95), the earth grounding must be reinforced inone of the following ways:• earth ground wire of at least 10 mm2• 2 separate earth ground wires both complyingwith the dimensioning rules5.9 EMC-correct Installation5.9.1 Electrical Installation - EMCPrecautionsThe following is a guideline to good engineering practicewhen installing frequency converters. Follow theseguidelines in compliance with EN 61800-3 Firstenvironment. If the installation is in EN 61800-3 Secondenvironment, industrial networks, or in an installation withits own transformer, deviation from these guidelines isallowed but not recommended. See alsochapter 2.3.3 Danfoss Frequency Converter and CELabelling, , , chapter 2.10.3 EMC Test Results (Emission) and .Good Engineering Practice to Ensure EMC-CorrectElectrical Installation:• Use only braided screened/armoured motorcables and braided screened control cables. Thescreen provides a minimum coverage of 80%. Thescreen material must be metal, not limited to buttypically copper, aluminum, steel, or lead. Thereare no special requirements for the mains cable.• Installations using rigid metal conduits are notrequired to use screened cable, but the motorcable must be installed in conduit separate fromthe control and mains cables. Full connection ofthe conduit from the frequency converter to themotor is required. The EMC performance offlexible conduits varies a lot and information fromthe manufacturer must be obtained.• Connect the screen conduit to earth at both endsfor motor cables as well as for control cables. Insome cases, it is not possible to connect thescreen in both ends. If so, connect the screen atthe frequency converter.
