BigIron RX Series Configuration Guide 24153-1002253-01Configuration of a LAG 8Configuration of a LAGThe following configuration procedures are used to configure a LAG. Depending upon whether youare configuring a static, dynamic or keep-alive LAG, the configuration procedures may or may notapply as described:• Creating a Link Aggregation Group – Required for all static, dynamic or keep alive LAGs.• Adding Ports to a LAG – Required for all static, dynamic, or keep alive LAGs. A keep alive LAGcontains only one port with static and dynamic LAGs can have 2 to 8 ports.• Configuring the Primary Port for a LAG – Required for all static and dynamic LAGs. Since a keepalive LAG contains only one port, it is unnecessary to configure this parameter.• Specifying the Trunk Threshold for a Trunk Group – Optional for static and dynamic LAGs. Sincea keep alive LAG contains only one port, it is unnecessary to configure this parameter.• Configuring LACP Port Priority – Optional for dynamic and keep alive LAGs. Because static LAGsdo not support LACP, it is unnecessary to configure this parameter.• Configuring an LACP Timeout – Optional for dynamic and keep alive LAGs. Because static LAGsdo not support LACP, it is unnecessary to configure this parameter.Creating a Link Aggregation Group (LAG)Before setting-up ports or configuring any other aspects of a LAG, you must create it as shown inthe following.BigIron RX(config)# lag blue staticBigIron RX(config-lag-blue)#Syntax: [no] lag static | dynamic | keep-aliveRefer to “Allowable characters for LAG names” on page 13 for guidelines on LAG namingconventions. The static option specifies that the LAG with the name specified by the variable will beconfigured as a static LAG. The static LAG configuration is much the same as the Trunk feature .The dynamic option specifies that the LAG with the name specified by the variable willbe configured as a dynamic LAG. The dynamic LAG configuration is much the same as the LACPfeature. The keep-alive option specifies that the LAG with the name specified by the variablewill be configured as a keep-alive LAG. The keep-alive LAG configuration is a new configurationoption to configure a LAG for use in keep alive applications similar to the UDLD feature.Adding ports to a LAGA static or dynamic LAG can consist of from 2 to 20 ports of the same type and speed that are onany interface module within the BigIron RX device. A keep alive LAG consists of only one port.To configure the static LAG named “blue” with two ports, use the following command.BigIron RX(config)# lag blue staticBigIron RX(config-lag-blue)# ports ethernet 3/1 ethernet 7/2Syntax: [no] ports ethernet [ to ] [ ethernet ]
