The instructions included inthis manual should be read and kept as a referencedocument prior to initial controller installation anduse. Incorrect operation of these controllers canpresent a significant threat to both individuals andequipment. In the event of an equipment breakdown, do not attempt to repair the controller as thereare no user serviceable parts inside the enclosure.Any evidence of tampering will invalidate thewarranty.5.0 APPLICATIONThis operating and installation manual should be usedin conjunction with the online help provided with thePro-FX Control development environment. Together,this information should form a basis for the simpleconfiguration of the controller and the creation ofprograms specific to your application needs. Properoperation of the controller is dependent on theprogram that is created and ultimately downloaded tothe hardware, therefore extensive testing is required.Customers programming the controller possess theresponsibility of ensuring that both the hardwareand software performs as intended with theirapplications.Note: That each controller within the HFX product family requiresthe installation of hardware-specific firmware, description filesand libraries before initial use in the application environment.6.0 HARDWARE DESCRIPTIONThe Eaton HFX product line consists of fourcontroller models (HFX12m, HFX20m, HFX32m,and HFX48m), each possessing a unique numberof I/O. The HFX12m/HFX20m (pictured below)and HFX32m/HFX48m (pictured below) both sharecommon housings.Each of these units is designed to function overan extended operating range of supply voltage,from 6 – 32 VDC.HFX12m/HFX20mHFX32m/HFX48mThe three integrated CAN ports on these unitssupport CAN 2.0B, the first of which alsopossesses a software configurable termination.Both SAE J1939 and CANOpen stacks are availablein the software development environment.Additionally, the CANLayer2 software library isavailable for use with CAN bus.HFX controllers are programmed via a standardUSB port. The gateway from a user’s computerautomatically detects the hardware, eliminating theneed to manually assign a COM port to the unit.The two regulated outputs (sensor supplies) can beconfigured individually for either 5 or 10 V operation.HFX Product Family
