10 - 2Care and Handling of the Charge PackProper handling of the batteries while recharging extends the useful life of thebatteries. New charge packs are shipped uncharged. In order to break in the newbattery, we suggest that you fully charge and discharge the packs two times sothey can be conditioned for full capacity and longer life.If the charge pack is left plugged in for extended periods of time (for instance,several weeks) the contacts between the prongs may become dirty, causingcharging problems. Clean the prongs with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol toremove any accumulation of dirt.Replacing the Interface CableThe standard host interface cable is attached to the cordless base with a 15-pinD-type receptacle connector. Tighten the holding screws to properly seat theinterface connector. The cable is designed to be field replaceable.Auxiliary Port cables use a 10-position modular plug. To remove the Aux Portcable, depress the dimple located on the bottom of the base unit underneath theAux Port and pull the cable from the unit.Note: Order replacement cables from Hand Held Products or from an authorizeddistributor.When ordering a replacement cable, specify the cable part number of theoriginal interface cable.Recharging and Replacing the Cordless Scanner’s ChargePackTo maintain the maximum charge capacity, batteries should be allowed to fullydischarge prior to charging. It is recommended that you establish a processwhere a battery is used until it is fully discharged and fully charged before its nextuse. See "Charging Your Charge Pack" on page 1-5 for instructions onrecharging and replacing the cordless scanner charge pack.To Reset Factory SettingsIf you are unsure of the programming options that have been set up in yourcordless system, or you’ve changed some options and now want the factorysettings restored, refer to “Reset Factory Settings” on page 2-17 and scan theappropriate Factory Default Settings bar code.
