1 - 15RF (Radio Frequency) Module OperationThe cordless system uses a state-of-the-art two-way 2.4 GHz frequency-hoppingspread spectrum radio to transmit and receive data between the scanner and thebase. Designed for point-to-point and multipoint-to-single point applications, theradio transmits data at a rate of 1 megabit per second (Mbps). The radiooperates using a license free ISM band, which sends relatively small datapackets at a fast data rate over a radio signal with randomly changingfrequencies, makes the cordless system highly responsive to a wide variety ofdata collection applications and resistant to noisy RF environments. The RF radio used in the cordless system has been tested and approved ascomplying with the two leading standards-setting organizations that serve asregulatory models for compliance in most countries. In North America, the radiois approved under the standards in FCC B Part 15.249 regulations and, inEurope, under the standards in ETS 300 328 regulations.Cordless ScannerThe cordless scanner enables fast and accurate bar code scanning using a non-contact linear imager or laser input engine. The scanner maintains radiocommunication with the base unit up to 100 feet (30m) depending on theenvironment. The scanner is comprised of a linear imager or laser scan engine, a decode/control assembly, and an RF communication module. The scan engine performsthe bar code image illumination and sensing. The decode/control assemblycoordinates the central communication activities including: capturing anddecoding the bar code image data, performing software activities (parametermenuing, visual indicator support, low battery indication), and data translationrequired for the host system. The RF communication module performs the dataexchange between the scanner and the base.
