36 User GuideThe startup sequenceYour computer can be started from several devices including the hard disk drive,diskette drive, and CD ROM or DVD-ROM drive, or from the network. Thestartup program looks for these devices in a specified sequence and starts thecomputer from the first device in the sequence that contains startable media orcode. You can specify a different startup sequence for when your computer isturned on from the power button than for when it is turned on automatically, suchas over a LAN or by a timer. The Configuration/Setup Utility program is used toselect the primary startup sequence and the automatic power-on startupsequence.Changing the startup sequenceTo view or change the primary or automatic power-on startup sequence, do thefollowing:1. Start the Configuration/Setup Utility program (see “Starting and using theConfiguration/Setup Utility program” on page 31).2. Select Start Options and press Enter.3. Select Startup Sequence from the Start Options menu and press Enter.4. Use the arrow keys to make your selections, and press Esc until you return tothe Configuration/Setup utility program menu.5. Select Save Settings from the Configuration/Setup utility menu and pressEnter; then press Esc and follow the instructions on the screen to exit from theConfiguration/Setup utility program.If you have changed these settings and want to return to the default settings,select Load Default Settings on the main Configuration/Setup Utility menu.Pentium III microprocessor serial number featureSome models have an Intel Pentium III microprocessor that features a uniqueelectronic identification number designed to enhance security during electroniccommerce transactions and to hamper software piracy.To change this setting, do the following:1. Start the Configuration/Setup Utility program. See“Starting and using theConfiguration/Setup Utility program” on page 31.2. From the Configuration/Setup Utility program menu, select AdvancedSetup and press Enter.3. At the Advanced Setup menu, select Processor Control and press Enter.4. Select CPU Serial Number.5. Press the right arrow key to change the setting to either Enabled or Disabled.6. Press Esc two times to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility programmenu.7. Select Save Settings and press Enter.8. Select Exit Setup and press Enter.
