39The AVR580 is fully equipped to operateas the control center for a complete mul-tiroom system that is capable of sendingone source to a second zone in the housewhile a separate source is listened to inthe main room. In addition to providingfor control over the selection of theremote source and its volume, theAVR580 offers a comprehensive range ofoptions for powering the speakers in thesecond zone.■ Using the line-level Multiroom AudioOutputs h, the selected source maybe fed to optional, external poweramplifiers that may be matched to thespecifics of the installation.■ When the main room system is config-ured for 5.1 operation, the SurroundBack Left/Right amplifier channels maybe used to power the remote zone sothat no additional amplifiers arerequired. In addition, the AVR580 includes aremote IR sensor input so that remotecontrol commands from the Zone IIremote included with the unit may betransmitted to the unit, while standardIR input/output jacks allow the remotezone’s commands to be sent to compatibleIR-controlled source devices.InstallationAlthough simple remote room systemsmay be installed by the average do-it-yourself hobbyist, the complexity of yourmultizone/multiroom system involves run-ning wires inside of walls where theservices of a specially trained installermay be required. Regardless of who doesthe work, please remember that localbuilding codes may govern in-wall electri-cal work, including proper specificationof any wiring used and the way in whichit is connected. You are responsible formaking certain that all multiroom instal-lation work is done properly and in com-pliance with all applicable codes andregulations. For standard installations, follow theinstructions shown on page 17 for theconnection of speaker wire and IR remotewiring to the AVR580.For installations where the Surround BackLeft/Right amplifier channels are used topower the remote zone, make certain thatthe system is configured for that type ofoperation, as shown on page 36.RS-232 ControlThe AVR580 is rare among A/V receiversin that it provides the capability for fullremote control from compatible comput-ers or specialized remote control sys-tems. RS-232 programming requires spe-cialized programming knowledge and forthat reason we recommend that it only bedone by qualified installers. For moreinformation on using the RS-232 port forremote control, please contact your localJBL distributor.Multiroom SetupOnce the audio and IR link connectionshave been made, the AVR580 needs tobe configured for multiroom operation.Press the OSD Button v to bring theMASTER MENU (Figure 1) to thescreen. Press the ¤ Button n,until the on-screen › cursor is nextto the MULTI-ROOM line. Pressthe Set Button p to enter theMULTI-ROOM SETUP menu(Figure 11).Figure 11When the MULTI-ROOM SETUPmenu appears, the on-screen › cursorwill be at the MULTI-ROOM line.Since this line is used to turn the systemon and off, don’t make an adjustmenthere unless you wish to turn the systemon at this time. When the selectionhas been made, press the ¤ Button nonce so that the › on-screen cursor isnext to the MULTI VOL line.At the MULTI VOL line, press the‹/› Buttons o until the desiredvolume level for the multiroom system isentered. DO NOT use the regular volumecontrol knobs for this setting. When allsettings for the multiroom setup havebeen made, press the ⁄/¤ Buttonsn until the on-screen › cursor is nextto the BACK TO MASTER MENUline. If you have no other adjustments tomake, press the OSD Button v to exitthe menu system.Multiroom OperationWhen operating the AVR580 from aremote room location where an IR sensorlink has been connected to the AVR580’srear-panel Multiroom IR Input d, youmay use either the main remote controlor the Zone II remote. To turn on themultiroom feed, press any of the InputSelector buttons on the Zone II remoteç∂ or the main remote eg.Press the AVR Selector f∫ to turnthe unit on to the last source, or any ofthe other Selector buttons to turn on toa specific source. As long as an IR feed to the AVR580 hasbeen established from the remote room, using any of the buttons on either remotewill control the remote location volumeî, change the tuner frequencyuÉ, change the tuner preset© or mute the output ˚.If the Remote IR Output Jack f on theAVR580 is connected to an IR Input jackon compatible audio components such asCD, DVD or cassette players, the trans-port functions of those machines mayalso be controlled using the TransportControls `ƒ˙∆ on eitherremote control. To turn the system off from the remoteroom, press the Power Off Buttonaå. Remember that the AVR580 maybe turned on or off from the remote room, regardless of the system’s operation orstatus in the main room.NOTE: When the tuner is selected as thesource for the remote zone, any changeto the frequency or preset will alsochange the station being listened to inthe main room, if the tuner is in usethere. Similarly, if someone in the mainroom changes the station, the changewill also impact the remote room.To activate the feed to the remote room, while you are in the main listening roomwhere the AVR580 is located, press the433340373737* M U L T I - R O O M S E T U P *M U L T I - R O O M : O F F O NM U L T I I N : F M P R E S E T 0 1M U L T I V O L : 2 5 d BB A C K T O M A S T E R M E N UMULTIROOM OPERATION
