Once the AVR580’s remote isprogrammed with the codes for the pro-ducts you own, it is possible to eliminatemost other remotes and replace themwith the convenience of a single, universalremote control.Programming the ProductCodesThe AVR580 remote is factory-pro-grammed for all AVR functions, as well asthose of JBL DVD players. In addition, byfollowing one of the methods below, youmay program the remote to operate awide range of devices from other manu-facturers.Direct Code EntryThis method is the easiest way toprogram your remote to work withdifferent products.1. Use the tables in the following pagesto determine the three-digit code orcodes that match both the producttype (e.g., VCR, TV) and the specificbrand name. If there is more than onenumber for a brand, make note of thedifferent choices.2. Turn on the unit you wish to programinto the AVR580 remote.3. Press theInput Selector e again and notethat the red light under the InputSelector e will flash three timesbefore going dark to confirm the entry.6. Try all of the functions on the remoteto make certain that the product oper-ates properly. Keep in mind that manymanufacturers use a number of differ-ent combinations of codes, so it is agood idea to make certain that notonly the power control, but the vol-ume, channel and transport controlswork as they should. If functions donot work properly, you may need touse a different remote code.7. If a code cannot be entered to turnthe unit off, if the code for your prod-uct does not appear in the tables inthis manual, or if not all functionsoperate properly, try programmingthe remote with the Auto SearchMethod.Auto Search MethodIf the unit you wish to include in theAVR580’s remote is not listed in the codetables in this manual or if the code doesnot seem to operate properly, you maywish to program the correct code usingthe Auto Search method that follows:1. If all func-tions do not work properly, you mayneed to Auto-Search for a differentcode, or enter a code via the DirectCode Entry method.Code ReadoutWhen the code has been entered usingthe Auto Search method, it is always agood idea to find out the exact code sothat it may be easily reentered if neces-sary. You may also read the codes toverify which device has been programmedto a specific Control Selector button.1. Ten blinks are used toindicate a “0.”Example: One blink, followed by a one-second pause, followed by six blinks, fol-lowed by a one-second pause, followedby ten blinks indicates that the code hasbeen set to 160.For future reference, enter the setupcodes for the equipment in your systemhere:DVD ____________ CD____________VID1/VCR ________ VID2/SAT ____VID2/CBL ________ VID3/TV ______VID4 ____________ TAPE ________434343
