Themenu system will then automatically return tothe status listing. If you have no other changes to make after set-ting this default, press the Menu Button zto remove the Setup Menu from the screen, orpress the Play/Pause Button tobegin or resume playback.Note that the performance of the DynamicRange function is dependent on the audioformat of the disc being played, and whetheror not the disc’s soundtrack is capable of thisfeature.Note that you can achieve the same effect byusing the DCR600II’s Night mode. Simply pressthe Main Input Selector h, the NightButton , then the ⁄/¤ Buttons yto scroll through the dynamic range choices.Press the Set Button to enter the selec-tion. If you choose to use the DynamicRange/Night Mode feature, select it usingeither the DVD600II or the DCR600II, but notboth simultaneously.Using the Digital Audio OutputDVD players accommodate a variety of audioformats, including Dolby Digital, DTS and thePCM audio format used by conventional CDdiscs and some DVD playback. The DCR600IIreceiver can automatically detect any of thesedigital formats. Depending on the format of thediscs in your library, you need to set a defaultfor the type of audio outputs accommodated.Although the DVD600II will play all of these disctypes, this setting creates a default that tellswhich way to present the soundtracks whenthere is a choice. To select a Digital Audio Output default, youmust be viewing the Setup Menu (Figure 1),which is available by pressing the MenuButton z while the unit is in the Stop mode.At the Setup Menu, press the ¤ Buttonuntil the Digital Audio Out option is highlighted.Next, press the Enter Button . Selectone of the three choices in the options box(Figure 15) using the ⁄/¤ Buttons y .The choices are as follows:• PCM: Choose this setting if most of yourlibrary consists of conventional CDs.• Dolby Digital: Choose this setting only if youdo not plan on listening to any DTS selections.Should you choose to watch a DVD movie orlisten to a CD which has a DTS audio track, you must return to this menu and change thisselection to DTS.• DTS: We recommend that you choose thissetting, since the DCR600II receiver includedwith your system is capable of automaticallydetecting and decoding any of the threeformats of DTS, Dolby Digital and PCM.Figure 15NOTE: If you select the DTS option, yourreceiver or processor MUST be capable ofdecoding DTS audio. If the DTS option is chosenand the unit is connected to a product that can-not support DTS, no audio will be heard when aDTS disc is played.Remember, regardless of the option chosen, youmay still have to adjust the settings on yourDVD disc or audio equipment, if you do not usethe DCR600II, to match the output of theDVD600II. In addition, the choice of which audioformats are available is limited by the typeof material recorded on the disc when it wasauthored. When you have made your selection using the⁄/¤ Buttons y to highlight the desiredoption, press the Enter Button and notethat the circle next to your choice will fill in. Themenu system will then automatically return tothe status listing. If you have no other changes to make after set-ting this default, press the Menu Button zto remove the Setup Menu from the screen, orpress the Play/Pause Button tobegin or resume playback.Setting the Linear PCM Bit RateIf the DVD600II detects a high-resolution, 96kHzaudio signal encoded on a disc, it can eitherpass the signal through to the receiver or, if thereceiver is not capable of processing a 96kHz bitrate signal, the DVD600II can downsample thesignal to 48kHz. The Linear PCM menu enablesyou to configure the DVD600II to match yourreceiver by selecting which bit rate theDVD600II should apply. The bit rate is set at the factory to default topassing the full 96kHz signal through, as theDCR600II receiver is capable of processing thissignal. Therefore, you should not adjust this fea-ture unless you use the DVD600II with anotherreceiver that is not capable of processing a96kHz signal.Figure 16
