73.Upgrading the NVG SoftwareThe Nortel VPN Gateway (NVG) software image is the executable coderunning on the VPN Gateway. A version of the image ships with the VPNGateway, and comes pre-installed on the device. As new versions of theimage are released, you can upgrade the software running on your VPNGateway. Before upgrading, check the accompanying release notes forany specific actions to take for the particular software upgrade packageor install image.There are two types of upgrades:• Minor release upgrade: This is typically a bug fix release. Usuallythis kind of upgrade can be done without the VPN Gateway rebooting.Thus, the normal operation and traffic flow is maintained. Allconfiguration data is retained. When performing a minor upgrade, youshould connect to the Management IP address of the cluster you wantto upgrade.• Major release upgrade: This kind of release may contain bothbug fixes as well as feature enhancements. The VPN Gateway mayautomatically reboot after a major upgrade, because the operatingsystem may have been enhanced with new features. All configurationdata is retained. When performing a major upgrade, you shouldconnect to the Management IP address of the cluster you want toupgrade.• Upgrading from software version 2.0 to software version 3.0.7:This upgrade needs to be performed in two steps, due to the newdatabase format and software management introduced in version3.0.7.
