Installation and Administration Guide 429July 2004 Maintaining the databaseArchiving and restoring Symposium WebCenter Portal dataIntroductionUse the Symposium Web Center Portal archive and restore utility, on the Portalserver, to store contacts and associated data. The archive utility allows you toremove old contacts and associated information from the database and store it ina specified location, such as a specified network drive, for restoring to thedatabase or another utility.When you archive files from the database, you remove the following tables:! transaction table! response table! customer table (optional)! attachment_tab table! attachments as referenced in the attachment _tab files! acknowledgements_attachments tableOnce the data is archived, the existing records of this information are deletedfrom the database, including the archived attachments. The customer details areonly deleted if there are no existing contacts remaining for that customer.Acknowledgment attachments are not deleted as they may be used by othercontacts.Note: The data is deleted from the database, therefore, you do not need to runthe purge utility after you run the archive utility.Archiving guidelinesThe Symposium Web Center Portal database can store up to 750 000transactions. However, Nortel Networks recommends that you start archivingyour database once it reaches 500 000 transactions, and that you try to maintaina balance of 500 000 transactions in the database.
