2qSending a Fax to a Single Location1 Load your documents.2 Select a location. Refer to the instructionsbelow.To Dial Using Do ThisA One-Touch key Press the One-Touch key.An Auto Dial number Press the AUTO DIAL key, thenenter the 3-digit Auto Dialnumber on the numeric keypad.The numeric keypad Dial as you would on a normaltelephone. If you make amistake, press YES to go backand re-enter the number.An external telephone Pick up the handset of yourexternal telephone and dial thenumber of the machine you wishto transmit to. If the receiving faxmachine is in automaticreception mode, you will hear ahigh-pitched tone. If a personanswers the phone, ask them topress the START key on their faxmachine.3 If necessary, press the START key to begin thetransmission. Refer to the table below tounderstand some of the messages you maysee during a typical fax transmission.Message Explanation(location) The remote location’s PersonalID, TSI/CSI, Location ID or thetelephone number you enteredidentifies the location duringtransmission.CALLING The line is ringing.SENDING Your machine is sending themessage.RESULT = OK The fax was sent successfully.COMMUN. ERROR If you see this or another errormessage, a problem occurredduring the communication. Tryresending the fax. Refer to thechapter on Problem Solving forassistance.Search Key DialingIf you are not sure which One-Touch key or AutoDial number contains the location you want tocommunicate with, use the SEARCH key to lookthrough an alphabetical list of all of the Location IDsprogrammed into your machine.1 When selecting locations, press the SEARCHkey. The display shows ENTER 1-ST CHAR.2 Repeatedly press the SEARCH key to lookthrough the entire list of locations in alphabeti-cal order, or locate the letter you want on thenumeric keypad, and press that key repeatedlyto look through Location IDs beginning with thatletter.Real-Time DialingNormally, your machine dials the entire number ofthe location you have selected at one time. Occa-sionally, it may be necessary to dial numbers in realtime (one digit at a time).If your machine is equipped with a handset, youcan dial in real time by picking up the handset. Or,press the HOOK/V. REQUEST key.RedialingIf the line is busy or if there is no answer, yourmachine waits, and then automatically redials thenumber.If your machine is transmitting from memory and acommunication error occurs, it automatically redialsthe number and tries to send the fax again.You can redial a number manually at any time bypressing the REDIAL key.Confirming ResultsAfter transmission, press the COPY key once (withno documents loaded) to see a report confirmingyour transmission on your machine’s display. Toprint the report, press the COPY key a secondtime. See the section on Reports for more informa-tion.Stopping a TransmissionTo stop a transmission while it is in progress, followthe instructions below.1 Press the STOP key twice. The display showsSTOPPED.2 If documents are stuck partway through thedocument feeder, you may see a RELOADDOCUMENT message on the display. Pressthe STOP key again. Your machine feeds thedocument the rest of the way through thedocument feeder.
