Fax263 FaxSending Faxes3.1 Using the unit as a faxmachine3.1.1 Entering the fax modeBefore sending a fax, set the operation mode tothe fax mode.Press {FAX} to turn the {FAX} light ON.Note:L You can change the default operation mode(feature #463 on page 62) and the timerbefore returning to the default operationmode (feature #464 on page 62).L Received documents will be stacked on thelower output tray. You can change the outputtray for faxing (Feature #441 on page 65).3.2 Sending a fax manually3.2.1 Using the auto documentfeederL Confirm that there are no documents onthe scanner glass.1 If the {FAX} light is OFF, turn it ON bypressing {FAX}.2 Adjust the width of the document guides (1)to fit the actual size of the document.3 Insert the document (up to 50 pages) FACEUP into the feeder until a single beep isheard.L If the document guides are not adjustedto fit the document, re-adjust them.4 If necessary, change the following settingsaccording to the type of document.L To select the resolution, see page 26.L To select the contrast, see page 26.5 Press {MONITOR}.6 Dial the fax number.7 Press {START}.Note:L Any document which can be sent as a fax canalso be copied and scanned (page 28).L Do not open the document cover whensending a fax with the auto document feeder.To stop sendingPress {STOP}.To select the resolution1. Press {RESOLUTION}.2. Press {V} or {^} repeatedly to select thedesired resolution.– “STANDARD”: For printed or typewrittendocuments with normal-sized characters.– “FINE”: For documents with small print.– “SUPER FINE”: For documents with verysmall print. This setting is effective onlywhen the other party has a compatible faxmachines.– “PHOTO”: For documents containingphotographs, shaded drawings, etc.L Using the “FINE”, “SUPER FINE” and“PHOTO” settings will increase transmissiontime.L If the resolution setting is changed duringfeeding, it will be effective from the next page.To select the contrastYou can adjust this setting depending on thelightness or darkness of the document. 5 levels(light to dark) are available.1.
