Q150T Sample Preparation System10473 - Issue 5 58 Q150T - Instruction Manual18. If the rod tip should break in the cutter, it can be removed by unscrewing the brasscoupling, removing the cutter and pushing out the broken rod tip, while avoiddamaging the teeth of the cutter.WARNINGTAKE CARE WHEN HANDLING THE CUTTER: IT IS VERY SHARP.7.2.2 Shaping Carbon Rods for Ramped EvaporationWhen shaping rods for ramped evaporation, it is necessary to produce a 1.4mmdiameter x 5mm long tip to the rod using the shaper with the red handle. Remove theyellow protective cap by pulling the tab. To prevent accidents, replace the cap on theunused cutter.7.3 Fitting the Carbon Fibre InsertFigure 7-6. Carbon string insertThe carbon fibre insert (10455) is designed for carbon evaporation from carbon cords, carbon fibre woven cord and carbon fibre fine strands (see Figure 7-6).1. Check the machine is not operating.2. Press down firmly on the top cover to release the latch.3. Lift the top cover and lay back against its stop.4. Turn the two securing buttons to release the installed insert and remove the insert.5. Prepare the carbon fibre insert for installation by removing from any packaging, plastic bags etc. Check the ‘O’ ring in the outer ring of the lid assembly fordamage or debris and clean or replace as required.6. Place the insert in position in the outer ring of the lid assembly carefully locatingthe M3 screw head in the rim of the insert in the slot to the right of the outer ring.7. Lock the insert in position by turning the securing buttons until their flangesoverlap the insert.8. Fit the carbon cord (C5421) between the two clamps. Do not pull the cord tight orinduce it to loop. For most applications, the spring-loaded clamps adequatelysecure the cord and provide the correct tension. However, for controlled pulseevaporation, you will achieve more repeatable results if you remove the springsand tighten the clamps using the screws.9. If you are using fine strands of fibre (C5461 - not suitable for controlled pulseevaporation), fold in half and gently twist together before fitting between theclamps.10. To prevent excessive fraying of the cord, cut it to length (35mm) after clamping.11. Close the lid assembly on to the glass chamber assembly.12. Check the copper terminal contacts on the top of the insert are clean and freefrom damage, (They must have a flat top face.) and that the contacts in theunderside of the top cover assembly are also clean and flat.Outer ring O-ringClamps with M3tension adjustingscrews
