If youuse this scanner as your only means for receivingweather alerts, please check to be sure you arereceiving a clear signal on the flex antenna orswitch to an external antenna that gives you clearreception of a local NOAA weather broadcast.Weather Radio ModeWeather radio mode allows you to receive weatherbroadcasts from your local weather service.To use weather radio mode:1. Press WX.The scanner will quickly scan and lock onto the first active weather radio frequency itreceives.2. Press S or T to look for other weather radiotransmitters.It is generally best to select the weatherradio transmitter that provides you with thestrongest signal. You can use the signal meterto help you chose the best weather radiotransmitter for your area.While operating in Weather Radio Mode,your scanner will alert on SAME messagesthat match the SAME location codes youhave entered, or all SAME messages if you donot enter any SAME location codes.Weather Priority ModeWeather Priority mode samples the specifiedweather frequency periodically while scanningto see if the All Hazards 1050 Hz Warning AlertTone (WAT) is present. If the WAT is present,the scanner will sound an alarm and tune tothe specified weather frequency to monitor thenature of the alert.To activate Weather Priority Mode:1. Press WX.2. Press S or T to look for other weather radiotransmitters and find the strongest weatherradio transmitter for your location.3. Press PRI.SAME Standby ModeSAME Standby Mode monitors the specifiedweather frequency silently, waiting to receive aSpecific Area Message Encoding (SAME) alertthat corresponds with a SAME location code thatyou have previously entered. If there is a match,the scanner will sound an alarm, display the alerttype, and monitor the nature of the alert.To activate SAME Standby Mode, first you shouldprovide at least one SAME location code for yourcity, county or state. By default, SAME mode willalert on any SAME message received if no SAMElocation codes are entered.SAME alerts include FIPS codes to identify areas,established by the US Census bureau. You can setyour scanner to alert for all areas or limit weatheralerts to up to 10 specific areas by FIPS code. Alist of SAME location codes can be found onlineat: www.weather.gov.
