Appendix C: Informational Notes299Windows 2000 Composite USB Device Behavior for Virtual MediaThe Windows 2000® operating system does not support USB compositedevices, like Raritan‟s D2CIM-VUSB, in the same manner asnon-composite USB devices. As a result, the “Safely Remove Hardware” system tray icon does notappear for drives mapped by the D2CIM-VUSB and a warning messagemay appear when disconnecting the device. Raritan has not observedany problems or issues from this message, however.Raritan‟s US engineering department has developed a configurationwhich supports the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon and avoids thisWindows message. This configuration requires the use of theD2CIM-DVUSB virtual media adapter and the Troubleshooting 3 USBProfile, which configures the D2CIM-DVUSB as a non-composite USBdevice supporting a single virtual media connection. Raritan hassuccessfully tested this configuration in the US and Japan.Virtual MediaVirtual Media Not Refreshed After Files AddedAfter a virtual media drive has been mounted, if you add a file(s) to thatdrive, those files may not be immediately visible on the target server.Disconnect and then reconnect the virtual media connection.
