Chapter 8: Device Management148Event ManagementThe Dominion KX II Event Management feature provides a set ofscreens for enabling and disabling the distribution of system events toSNMP Managers, Syslog, and the audit log. These events arecategorized, and for each event you can determine whether you want theevent sent to one or several destinations.Configuring Event Management - SettingsSNMP ConfigurationSimple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol governingnetwork management and the monitoring of network devices and theirfunctions. The Dominion KX II offers SNMP Agent support through EventManagement.To configure SNMP (enable SNMP logging):1. Choose Device Settings > Event Management - Settings. The EventManagement - Settings page appears.2. Select SNMP Logging Enabled. This enables the remaining SNMPfields.3. In the Name, Contact, and Location fields, type the SNMP agent'sname (that is, the device's name) as it appears in the Dominion KX IIConsole interface, a contact name related to this device, and wherethe Dominion device is physically located.4. Type the Agent Community String (the device's string). An SNMPcommunity is the group to which devices and management stationsrunning SNMP belong. It helps define where information is sent. Thecommunity name is used to identify the group. The SNMP device oragent may belong to more than one SNMP community.5. Specify whether the community is Read-Only or Read/Write usingthe Type drop-down list.6. Configure up to five SNMP managers by specifying their DestinationIP/Host Name, Port #, and Community.7. Click the Click here to view the Dominion SNMP MIB link to accessthe SNMP Management Information Base.8. Click OK.To configure the Syslog (enable Syslog forwarding):1. Select Enable Syslog Forwarding to log the device's messages to aremote Syslog server.
