Chapter 6: Commissioning the Autopilot 636 Commissioning the Autopilot6.2 Seatrial CalibrationWhen you have completed the dockside calibration, you mustcomplete the setup by taking the boat on a short seatrial to:1. Calibrate the compass:• complete the automatic deviation correction• align the compass heading2. Adjust the autopilot settings to suit your boat:• automatically on Type 150G/400G autopilot systems• manually on Type 150/400 (non-GyroPlus) and Type 100/300autopilot systemsSeatrial safetyNote: You can return to hand steering at any time during theseatrial by pressing standby. You should only perform the initial seatrial:• when you have successfully completed the dockside calibration• in conditions of light wind and calm water, so you can assessautopilot performance without the influence of strong winds orlarge waves• in waters that are clear of any obstructions, so the boat has plentyof clear space to maneuverNote: Before you start your seatrial, make sure you have switched onany ancillary equipment – such as a GPS (providing course overground (COG), speed over ground (SOG) and latitude (LAT) data) ora speed log (providing speed through the water). This informationwill help the autopilot achieve its best performance.CAUTION: EMC conformanceAlways check the installation before going to sea to make surethat it is not affected by radio transmissions, engine starting etc.
