70MessagesThis menu allows you to create, send, read andsave messages with the Short Message Service(SMS: text message) and Enhanced MessageService (EMS: message including image, animationor melody). Voice mails are also available.Note: This feature is only available if your serviceprovider’s network supports it. Contact yourservice provider for more information.Inbox and Outbox share a given amount of memoryin your phone or SIM card. When the messagememory is full, the New Message icon ( ) blinksand an error message displays. It disappears whenyou press the key, but it reappears if youdon’t delete old messages. In this case, you cannotreceive any new messages. You must delete one ormore old messages to make room for newmessages using the Delete option within Inbox orOutbox or the Delete all option; for further details,see page 79.Inbox (Menu 1.1)Your phone receives incoming messages and savesthem in Inbox. SMS and EMS messages are usuallysaved in the SIM card, but if the SIM memory is full,the incoming messages will be saved in the phone’smemory.When you receive a new message, the newMessage icon ( ) and a text notification showingthe number of the message appear on the display.You also hear an alert, depending on the messagesound setting; for further details, see page 87.Messages71To read the new message(s) immediately, press theMessage soft key. The list of the messagesappears.Note: To clear the new message notification on thedisplay, press the key. When you alsohave missed calls, the right soft key indicationchanges in the following order: View,Message, and Phonebook.When the Inbox menu (Menu 1.1) is selected, thelist of messages received displays with the:• sender’s phone number, or name if stored inPhonebook.• message status; for a read message, for amessage to read or for an incompletemessage.To view a message, scroll to it and press the Selectsoft key. The screen shows the:• date and time when the message was received.• memory where the message was stored; forthe SIM card or for the phone’s memory.• message contents.You can scroll to the next or previous message bypressing the Left or Right key.To scroll through the message contents, press theUp or Down key. When you highlight an object thatincludes a melody, the melody is played.You can choose the following options by pressingthe Options soft key:Delete: allows you to delete the message.Message reply: allows you to reply by sending amessage.
