TB8100 Service Kit User’s Manual Alarms 13AlarmsThe base station monitors a large number of conditions. When a condition risesabove or falls below a defined threshold, the base station generates an alarm andstores it in its alarm log. The alarm log contains the 50 most recent alarms. Some alarms are inappropriate for particular systems; you can disable any thatyou do not want. Most alarms indicate a fault condition, but some are generated by conditionsexternal to the base station, such as mains power failure or loss of RF input.Alarm Notification OptionsThe base station is able to notify you in the following ways when an alarm isactivated:Q Transmitting pip tonesQ Sending pip tones over the lineQ Sending the alarm log to a PC running the Tait Alarm Center softwareQ Emailing a status message via the Alarm Center. Status messages contain thealarm log and the current state of monitored parametersQ Activating a digital output lineThese methods are configured in the Service Kit but enabled by Task Manageraction. As Task Manager has an input for each alarm, its response can varydepending on the alarm. You can create Task Manager tasks that optimize theresponse for your particular system.Enabling Alarm NotificationAlarm notification methods need to be set up and configured. Choose carefullywhich ones to implement, based on the available resources and your policy forremote monitoring. See TN-742, Remotely Monitoring and Configuring the TaitTB8100, for details. To set up an alarm notification method, you may need a physical link (forexample, modems and a telephone line). Then you use the Service Kit toconfigure the method. Finally, you define suitable Task Manager tasks. Whensomething happens, a task is processed that tells the base station to use themethod to notify the alarm. Tasks can initiate notification:Q When the base station is started or resetQ When any alarm occursQ When particularly important alarms are triggered
