108Chapter 4 Config MenuData BitsSets the length of the serial data word. The length of the data word can be setto 7 or 8 bits, and must match the corresponding data bits setting in the hostcomputer. The default is 8 bits.Stop BitsSets the number of stop bits in the serial data word. Either one or two stop bitscan be selected. The setting must match the corresponding stop bit setting inthe host computer. The default is one stop bit.ParitySet for odd parity, even parity, or no parity. The setting must match thecorresponding parity setting in the host computer. The default is no parity.8th BitIf 8 bits per byte is selected under Data Bits above, use this parameter todetermine how the 8th bit is to be used. If this bit is to be ignored, set theparameter to Unused. If the bit is to be used, set the parameter to Data. Datais the default, used for 8-bit characters.ProtocolThe printer and host computer must establish common signals, understood byboth units, for indicating when to send new data and when to stop sendingdata. The eight protocols are:• Ready/Busy (default)• Xon/XoffThe six Block Mode protocols:• Enq/Ack (Enquiry/Acknowledge)• Etx/Ack (End of Text/Acknowledge)• Etx/Ack/Nak (End of Text/Acknowledge/Neg. Acknowledge)• Ack/Nak (Acknowledge/Negative Acknowledge)• Xon/off/Etx/Ack (XON/XOFF/End of Text/Acknowledge)• Xon/off/Enq/Ack (XON/XOFF/Enquiry/Acknowledge)
