5 – Channel modules : EQTASCAM DM-4800 User’s Manual 79EQThe four-band EQ provided on the first 48 channelmodules of the DM-4800 allows precise sound shap-ing, combined with flexibility, and repeatability, thanks to the library store and recall facilities. It is also easy to copy and paste EQ settings from onemodule to another (see “Fat channel” on page 27.To view the EQ settings for a module, press theMODULE key until the EQ page is shown.TIPThe instructions here refer to POD use, but you can putthe encoders into EQ mode, and use the encoders toadjust individual EQ parameters for the selected chan-nel (see “Encoders” on page 22 for full details). It is alsopossible to link the screen display to the encoders, orthe other way round, so that changing one automati-cally changes the other. See “PREFERENCES” onpage 43.You can also use the dedicated “fat channel” keys andcontrols as described in ““Fat channel”” on page 27.Use the cursor keys to move the “box” around thescreen, and the four POD encoders to change the val-ues of the gain (where appropriate), frequency, Q(where appropriate) and the type of filter for theselected band.Turn the EQ on and off using the EQ key in the “fatchannel”, or by using the on-screen EQ button (cir-cled in Figure 5.9, Module EQ screen)Turn the individual band highlighted by the on-screen box on and off using the ENTER key.As you make changes to the EQ setting, the graph atthe top of the screen changes as does the one by atthe top of the “global section”.All bands have the same frequency range: from 31Hzto 19kHz (in 112 steps). The amount of gain is ±18dB for all bands.Q (where appropriate) can be set to any of the fol-lowing 24 values: 8.65, 4.32, 2.87, 2.14, 1.71, 1.41,1.20, 1.04, 0.92, 0.82, 0.74, 0.67, 0.61, 0.56, 0.51,0.47, 0.44, 0.40, 0.38, 0.35, 0.33, 0.30, 0.28, or 0.27.The types of EQ filter available are:Low band: Low shelf (L.SHELF), peak (PEAK), andhigh-pass filter (HPF)Low-mid band: Peak (PEAK) or notch (NOTCH)High-mid band: Peak (PEAK) or notch (NOTCH)High band: High shelf (H.SHELF), peak (PEAK), low-pass filter (LPF)Note that the following parameters are used by thedifferent EQ filters:Peak filter: Gain, Frequency, QShelving filters (high and low): Gain and FrequencyHPF and LPF: FrequencyNotch filters: Frequency and QUnused parameters are grayed out on screen or ifencoders are elected to set the EQ, the encoders forthe unused parameters are disabled, and no indicatorsare lit. The “fat channel” controls have no effect onunused parameters.Encoders and EQ The encoders can be used tomake EQ settings (unmodified ENCODER key 4) asdescribed in “Encoders” on page 22.Figure 5.9: Module EQ screen
