44Network Audio Adapter (NAA)General information Extremely high-resolution music is normally delivered to the SDV 3100 HV bythe direct route via a USB connection between the audio workstation (AudioPC) and the SDV 3100 HV. However, since USB connections are limited to amaximum length of 3m the Audio PC must be set up in the immediate vicinityof the SDV 3100 HV.In installations where the distance between PC and SDV 3100 HV is greaterthan this, what is known as a Network Audio Adapter is required, and theSDV 3100 HV incorporates this facility. This technology makes it possible toconvey extremely high-resolution music files on the network: up to PCM768and DSD1024. The Audio PC can then be installed in any location in thehouse.Hardware and softwarerequirementsIn addition to the SDV 3100 HV you will need a high-performance Audio PC, aGigaBit network router, a LAN connection between the Audio PC and theSDV 3100 HV and “HQPlayer” software from the Signalyst company. A copyof “roon-Server” software from the roonlabs company can also be installedon the Audio PC to help you manage your music archive; it also provides aconvenient means of controlling the entire system. More information on HQPlayer and roon software can be found on theInternet at:https://www.signalyst.com/consumer.htmlandhttps:/www./roonlabs.com/Network, connections Since the transmission of ultra-high resolution music data using what isknown as isochronous transfer mode requires data transfer at rates of up to300 MBit per second with total immunity to interruption, all networkcomponents involved in the signal transfer must guarantee completelyinterference-free data transfer. It therefore follows that it is not possible to use WLAN, or a 10 or 100 MBitLAN network, for this purpose. It is also necessary to isolate the audionetwork from the rest of the home network, so that other network trafficcannot interrupt or interfere with the audio data transmission. For details onconnections please see the Wiring diagram in Appendix A.Playback Select the NAA input (Network Audio) on the SDV 3100 HV.(it may be necessary to activate the input beforehand in the SystemConfiguration menu. Please refer to the section entitled “Basic settingsof the SDV 3100 HV”). Start HQ Player on the Audio PC. In HQPlayer select “NetworkAudioAdapter” as Backend underFile/Settings. In HQPlayer select “TA-NetworkAudio:DAC SDV 3100 HV: USB Audio”as Device under File/Settings. In HQPlayer select “None” as SDM Pack under File/Settings (thisenables native DSD transmission). Complete the remaining settings in accordance with the characteristicsand capabilities of your Audio PC, then confirm with “OK” and leave theSettings menu.If you now select a track in the HQPlayer control window, it should beaudible via the SDV 3100 HV.
