68Trouble shootingMany problems have a simple cause and a correspondingly simple solution. The following section describes a fewdifficulties you may encounter, and the measures you need to take to cure them. If you find it impossible to solve aproblem with the help of these notes please disconnect the unit from the mains and ask your authorised specialist dealer for advice.Machine does not switch on Cause 1:Mains lead not plugged in correctly.Remedy:Check connection, push connector in firmly.Cause 2:Mains switch on the back panel not switched on.Remedy:Switch the mains switch on.Device makes click noises Cause :The clicking is caused by the gold contact relays. These are responsible forthe volume control, switching and muting of the audio signal. Relays are thetechnically best solution for these applications. Therefore, clicking is aquality feature and not a shortcoming.FM radioWhistling or whisperingnoises from the speakers.Cause:The antenna lead is routed too close to a mains, remote control or audiosignal cable.Remedy:Move the leads so that they are spaced well apart. Use the domestic (loft oroutside) antenna or a cable connection.The RDS station name doesnot appear in the display.Cause 1:The station is not broadcasting RDS information.Cause 2:Reception is poor, interference is severe, or the field strength (signalstrength) is low.Remedy:Select only those stations which can be received with a strong signal: hiss-free and without interference.The unit can be operatednormally, but very fewstations or none at all can bepicked up.Cause:The antenna system or antenna cable is faulty.Remedy:Check the antenna lead for good contact at the antenna socket (at the wall)and in the back of the tuner. As a test, try using the system with a trailingantenna. If you can now receive stations reasonably well, we recommendthat you call out an expert antenna technician to check your antenna system.
