2-20 Macintosh Setupbb• Optimized for Quality compresses image data for faster printing than normal butwith some (usually not noticeable) loss of image quality.• Optimized for Speed implements a greater degree of data compression to providethe fastest print time but with the possibility of a noticeable loss of data quality.Optimize selections do not function if the print job contains an image that is maskedor rotated to anything other than 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270°.GammaThe Gamma feature allows you to adjust printer output for ink, media, file, andenvironmental conditions. For example if a scanned image is too dark, you can selecta new gamma setting to lighten and enhance the details. XANTÉ provides sevenstandard gamma curves available through the Gamma menu in the Print dialog box.Gamma curves 1 through 5 progressively lighten the midrange values in an image.Gamma 0 (the factory default) makes no change to the image, and Gamma 6produces a reverse (negative) image without changing the image in the application.Graphs in figure 2.45 show the change to the midrange gray levels.110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 6Black White110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 5Black White110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 4Black White110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 3Black White110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 2Black White110 Output LevelsBlack WhiteInput LevelsGamma 1Black White110 Output LevelsGamma 0Black WhiteInput LevelsBlack WhiteFig. 2.45 Gamma Corrections 0 through 6
