9-10 CHAPTER 9: C ONFIGURING IPX R OUTINGConfiguring IPX RIPand SAPRIP is utilized as a means of communicating routing information betweenrouters. This is done to keep the routers updated on information. ServiceAdvertising Protocol (SAP) is a protocol used by IPX servers and routers toexchange information about the location of servers.Local Site (LAN) RIPand SAPIPX RIP and SAP parameters can be configured in the advanced IPXoptions for the local site (LAN).1 Select Configuration > Local Site > IPX.2 Select the Local Site definition from the list and click Advanced toaccess the IPX Advanced screen containing the following parameters: Your network performance may be degraded if you set the IPXmaximum packet size to less than 500 bytes. It is not generallyrecommended to modify the IPX maximum packet size. Checking the SAP Nearest Replies box requests the nearest serverfor routing information.3 Enter the value for the LAN RIP and LAN SAP Age Multipliers. Theseare values by which to multiply the corresponding update interval toobtain the length of time (seconds) before aging out entries in either theRIP or SAP database.4 Enter the Update Intervals for the LAN RIP and LAN SAP.
