The IP address will then appear onthe test page you print by pressing the test button once.• If you are not working in a DHCP network, you need to set the IPaddress of the print server manually.Notes:Important:Methods for Settingthe IP AddressYou can obtain an IP address for your AXIS 5550 by using one of thefollowing methods, depending on your network operating environment.See “IP Addressing” on page 125 for detailed instructions on IP addressmanagement.Automatic IP AddressAssignmentManual IP AddressAssignment• You need root privileges on your UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X system, or administrator priv-ileges on a Windows NT server to set the IP address using RARP, BOOTP, DHCP and to addan entry to the ARP table with the command 'arp -s'.• You need to know the Ethernet address of your AXIS 5550 in order to assign an IP addressto it. The Ethernet address is based upon the serial number of your print server. Thismeans, for example, that an AXIS 5550 with the serial number of 00408C100086, willhave the corresponding Ethernet address of 00 40 8C 10 00 86. The serial number islocated on the bottom label of the print server• Unless you are assigning an IP address using DHCP or Auto-IP, you must obtain anunused IP address from your network administrator.DO NOT use the IP addresses from the examples described here.
