You can download software updates from the support section of the NOOKwebsite, www.nook.com/support.Software updates fix problems with the software. They also contain new features. Updates arerequired. You can find out what an update contains at www.nook.com/support.Wireless UpdatesEach time your registered NOOK turns on from fully off or synchronizes, it checks to determinewhether the software it is running is the latest available. It also checks immediately after registration.If more current software is available and your NOOK can download it wirelessly, your NOOKdownloads and installs the software. It displays a message that informs you that the update isoccurring. A restart is a part of the update process. Do not turn off your NOOK.Prior to downloading the software update, your NOOK determines whether the wireless signalstrength is sufficient for the download.Your nook might not be able to download the update wirelessly in these cases:• NOOK Wi-Fi: Your NOOK is not connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot.• NOOK (Wi-Fi + 3G model): Your NOOK is not connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot. Your NOOKhas also not detected a B&N Fast & Free Wireless network, or the update is too large todownload over the B&N Fast & Free Wireless network.Some software updates require a Wi-Fi connection. If your nook cannot download anupdate wirelessly, you receive a message in The Daily that contains information about howto connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, and about how to obtain the update from www.nook.com/support and transfer it to your NOOK using USB.USB UpdatesSome software updates must be downloaded over Wi-Fi or transferred to your NOOK using USB.Software updates for unregistered NOOKs must be transferred using USB.
