BatteryThis vehicle has a maintenance free battery. It is locatedin the trunk, behind the trim panel, on the passenger sideof the vehicle. When it is time for a new battery, see yourdealer/retailer for one that has the replacement numbershown on the original battery’s label.Warning: Battery posts, terminals, and relatedaccessories contain lead and lead compounds,chemicals known to the State of California to causecancer and reproductive harm. Wash hands afterhandling.After a power loss, such as disconnecting the battery orremoving the maxi fuses in the power distribution fuseblock, the following steps must be performed to calibratethe electronic throttle control. If this is not done, theengine will not run properly.1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN. Do not start theengine.2. Leave the ignition in ON/RUN for at leastthree minutes so that the electronic throttlecontrol will cycle and re-learn its home position.3. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.4. Start and run the engine for at least 30 seconds.Vehicle Storage{ CAUTION:Batteries have acid that can burn you and gas thatcan explode. You can be badly hurt if you are notcareful. See Jump Starting on page 5-48 for tipson working around a battery without getting hurt.Infrequent Usage: If the vehicle is driven infrequently,remove the black, negative (−) cable from the battery.This helps keep the battery from running down.Extended Storage: For extended storage of the vehicle,remove the black, negative (−) cable from the battery oruse a battery trickle charger.
