Doors and LocksDoor Locks{ CAUTION:Unlocked doors can be dangerous.• Passengers, especially children, can easilyopen the doors and fall out of a moving vehicle.When a door is locked, the handle will not openit. The chance of being thrown out of thevehicle in a crash is increased if the doors arenot locked. So, all passengers should wearsafety belts properly and the doors should belocked whenever the vehicle is driven.• Young children who get into unlocked vehiclesmay be unable to get out. A child can beovercome by extreme heat and can sufferpermanent injuries or even death from heatstroke. Always lock the vehicle wheneverleaving it.• Outsiders can easily enter through an unlockeddoor when you slow down or stop your vehicle.Locking your doors can help prevent this fromhappening.There are several ways to lock and unlock the vehicle.From the inside, use the manual lock levers locatedon the door panels near the windows.Push down on the manual lock lever to lock the door.To unlock the door, pull up on the lever.If the windows are down and the doors are locked, donot reach in to manually unlock the vehicle because youwill set off the alarm.From the outside, use the key, or press the lock orunlock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)transmitter. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) SystemOperation on page 2-6 for more information.On vehicles with the Remote Keyless Access system,the door unlocks by pulling the door handle whenyou have the transmitter with you. See Keyless AccessSystem Operation on page 2-9 for more information.Central Door Unlocking SystemThe vehicle has a central door unlocking feature.When unlocking the driver door, the other doors canbe unlocked by holding the key in the turned positionfor a few seconds or by quickly turning the key twicein the lock cylinder.2-17
