If the engine has been runningrecently, turn off the engine andallow several minutes for the oilto drain back into the oil sump.Checking the oil level too soonafter engine shutoff will notprovide an accurate oil levelreading.{ WarningThe engine oil dipstick handlemay be hot; it could burn you.Use a towel or glove to touch thedipstick handle.2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe itwith a clean paper towel orcloth, then push it back in allthe way. Remove it again,keeping the tip down, andcheck the level.
