This is normal.Braking in EmergenciesABS allows you to steer and brake atthe same time. In many emergencies,steering can help more than even thevery best braking.Electric Parking BrakeThe vehicle has an Electric ParkingBrake (EPB). The EPB can always beactivated, even if the ignition is off. Toprevent draining the battery, avoidrepeated cycles of the EPB systemwhen the engine is not running.The system has a Y Electric ParkingBrake light, and a 8 Service ParkingBrake light.See Electric Parking Brake Light 0 128and Service Electric Parking Brake Light0 129.Before leaving the vehicle, check forthe Y light to ensure that theparking brake is applied.EPB ApplyTo apply the EPB:1. Be sure the vehicle is at acomplete stop.2. Lift up the EPB switchmomentarily.The Y light will flash and then stayon once the EPB is fully applied. Ifthe Y light flashes continuously,then the EPB is only partially appliedor there is a problem with the EPB.A DIC message will display. Releasethe EPB and try to apply it again.If the light does not come on, or keepsflashing, have the vehicle serviced. Donot drive the vehicle if the Y light isflashing. See your dealer. See ElectricParking Brake Light 0 128.If the 8 light is on, pull the EPBswitch and hold it. Continue to holdthe switch until the Y light remainson. If the 8 light remains on, see yourdealer.If the EPB is applied while the vehicleis moving, the vehicle will decelerateas long as the switch is pulled. If theswitch is pulled until the vehiclecomes to a stop, the EPB will remainapplied.The vehicle may automatically applythe EPB in some situations when thevehicle is not moving. This is normal,and is done to periodically check thecorrect operation of the EPB system.If the EPB fails to apply, block the rearwheels to prevent vehicle movement.
