For example, thevehicle uses computer modules tomonitor and control engine andtransmission performance, to monitorthe conditions for airbag deploymentand deploy them in a crash, and,if equipped, to provide antilockbraking to help the driver control thevehicle. These modules may store datato help the dealer technician servicethe vehicle. Some modules may alsostore data about how the vehicle isoperated, such as rate of fuelconsumption or average speed. Thesemodules may retain personalpreferences, such as radio presets, seatpositions, and temperature settings.Event Data RecordersThis vehicle is equipped with an eventdata recorder (EDR). The mainpurpose of an EDR is to record, incertain crash or near crash-likesituations, such as an airbagdeployment or hitting a road obstacle,data that will assist in understandinghow a vehicle's systems performed.The EDR is designed to record datarelated to vehicle dynamics and safetysystems for a short period of time,typically 30 seconds or less. The EDRin this vehicle is designed to recordsuch data as:. How various systems in yourvehicle were operating.. Whether or not the driver andpassenger safety belts werebuckled/fastened;. How far (if at all) the driver wasdepressing the accelerator and/orbrake pedal; and. How fast the vehicle was traveling.These data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances inwhich crashes and injuries occur.NoteEDR data are recorded by your vehicleonly if a non-trivial crash situationoccurs.
