Running the Vehicle While ParkedIt is better not to park with the engine running. But if youever have to, here are some things to know.{ CAUTION:Idling a vehicle in an enclosed area with poorventilation is dangerous. Engine exhaust mayenter the vehicle. Engine exhaust contains CarbonMonoxide (CO) which cannot be seen or smelled.It can cause unconsciousness and even death.Never run the engine in an enclosed area that hasno fresh air ventilation. For more information, seeEngine Exhaust Engine Exhaust on page 2-36.{ CAUTION:It can be dangerous to get out of the vehicle ifthe automatic transmission shift lever is not fullyin P (Park) with the parking brake firmly set. Thevehicle can roll. Do not leave the vehicle when theengine is running unless you have to. If you haveleft the engine running, the vehicle can movesuddenly. You or others could be injured. To besure the vehicle will not move, even when you areon fairly level ground, always set the parking brakeand move the shift lever to P (Park).Follow the proper steps to be sure the vehicle will notmove.
