StabiliTrak® SystemThe vehicle is equipped with a vehicle stabilityenhancement system called StabiliTrak. It is an advancedcomputer controlled system that assists with directionalcontrol of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions.StabiliTrak activates when the computer senses adiscrepancy between the intended path and the directionthe vehicle is actually traveling. StabiliTrak selectivelyapplies braking pressure at any one of the vehicle’sbrakes to help steer the vehicle in the intended direction. When the stability control system activates, the TractionControl System (TCS)/StabiliTrak light will flash on theinstrument panel. This also occurs when traction controlis activated. A noise may be heard or vibration may befelt in the brake pedal. This is normal. Continue to steerthe vehicle in the intended direction. If there is a problem detected with StabiliTrak, aSERVICE STABILITRAK message will be displayed onthe Driver Information Center (DIC). See DIC Warningsand Messages on page 3-51. When this message isdisplayed, the system is not operational. Driving shouldbe adjusted accordingly.StabiliTrak comes on automatically whenever the vehicleis started. To assist with directional control of the vehicle, the system should always be left on. StabiliTrak canbe turned off if needed by pressing and holding theTCS/StabiliTrak button until the TCS/StabiliTrak lightcomes on the instrument panel and STABILITRAK OFFappears in the DIC. For information on turning TCS offand on, see Traction Control System (TCS) following. If cruise control is being used when StabiliTrak activates, the cruise control will automatically disengage. Cruisecontrol may be reengaged when road conditions allow.See Cruise Control on page 3-12 for more information.Traction Control System (TCS)The vehicle has a traction control system that limits wheelspin. This is especially useful in slippery road conditions. On a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, the system operates if itsenses that one or both of the rear wheels are spinning orbeginning to lose traction. On an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD)vehicle, the system will operate if it senses that any of thewheels are spinning or beginning to lose traction. Whenthis happens, the system brakes the spinning wheel(s)and/or reduces engine power to limit wheel spin. The system may be heard or felt while it is working, butthis is normal. The TCS warning light will also flash to indicate that thetraction control system is active.4-6
