Tow/Haul ModePressing this button atthe end of the shift leverturns on and off thetow/haul mode. This indicator light on theinstrument panel clustercomes on when thetow/haul mode is on.Tow/Haul is a feature that assists when pulling a heavytrailer or a large or heavy load. See Tow/Haul Modeon page 2-31.Tow/Haul is designed to be most effective whenthe vehicle and trailer combined weight is at least75 percent of the vehicle’s Gross Combined WeightRating (GCWR). See “Weight of the Trailer” laterin the section. Tow/Haul is most useful under thefollowing driving conditions:• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload through rolling terrain.• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload in stop and go traffic.• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavyload in busy parking lots where improved lowspeed control of the vehicle is desired.Operating the vehicle in Tow/Haul when lightly loaded orwith no trailer at all will not cause damage. However, there is no benefit to the selection of Tow/Haul when thevehicle is unloaded. Such a selection when unloadedmay result in unpleasant engine and transmission drivingcharacteristics and reduced fuel economy. Tow/Haul isrecommended only when pulling a heavy trailer or a largeor heavy load.Trailer BrakesA loaded trailer that weighs more than 1,000 lbs (900 kg)needs to have its own brake system that is adequate forthe weight of the trailer. Be sure to read and follow theinstructions for the trailer brakes so they are installed, adjusted and maintained properly. Because the vehiclehas StabiliTrak, do not try to tap into the vehicle’shydraulic brake system. If you do, both brake systems willnot work well, or at all.4-45
