7. Raise the tire fully against the underside of thevehicle. Continue turning the wheel wrench untilyou feel more than two clicks. This indicates that thecompact spare tire is secure and the cable istight. The spare tire hoist cannot be overtightened.8. Make sure the tire is stored securely. Push, pull (A),and then try to turn the tire (B). If the tire moves,use the wheel wrench to tighten the cable.Put back all tools as they were stored in the rearstorage compartment and put the compartment coverback on.Compact Spare TireAlthough the compact spare tire was fully inflated whenthe vehicle was new, it can lose air after a time.Check the inflation pressure regularly. It should be60 psi (420 kPa).After installing the compact spare on the vehicle, youshould stop as soon as possible and make sure the sparetire is correctly inflated. The compact spare is made toperform well at speeds up to 65 mph (105 km/h) fordistances up to 3,000 miles (5 000 km), so you can finishyour trip and have the full-size tire repaired or replacedwhere you want. You must calibrate the tire inflationmonitor system after installing or removing the compactspare. See Tire Pressure Monitor System on page 5-59.The system may not work correctly when the compactspare is installed on the vehicle. Of course, it’s best toreplace the spare with a full-size tire as soon as you can.The spare will last longer and be in good shape in caseyou need it again.Notice: When the compact spare is installed,do not take the vehicle through an automatic carwash with guide rails. The compact spare canget caught on the rails which can damage the tire,wheel and other parts of the vehicle.Do not use the compact spare on other vehicles.5-88
