12-10 Maintenance Chapter 12Testing and Cleaning the BJ Cartridge Print HeadThe print head in the BJ cartridge contains nozzles through which ink is propelled ontothe paper. To maintain the best possible print quality, these nozzles need to be cleanedfrom time to time. Your MultiPASS is equipped with a print head cleaning function thatdoes this.Printing the Nozzle Check PatternBefore cleaning the print head, you may want to print the nozzle check pattern to testthe print head of the BJ cartridge installed in the MultiPASS. This test shows if eachprint head nozzle is operating properly.Refer to the flow chart (1 p. 12-9) for the correct order of testing and cleaning the BJcartridge print head.Follow this procedure to print the nozzle check pattern:1 Press Function.2 Press Cleaning.3 Press Set.• The MultiPASS prints the nozzle check pattern.When the Colour BJ cartridge is installed, the pattern includes all four colours; yellow,magenta, cyan, and black.nPrint the nozzle check pattern again after cleaning the BJ cartridge print head to check ifcleaning corrected the problem.Nozzle Check PatternIf the pattern is broken, missing,or a specific colour is not printed,clean the BJ cartridge print head.(1 p. 12-11)BJ Cartridge Print Head PositionIf these vertical lines are misaligned,align the print head.
