The GP605 (iR600) detects the orientationof each original, making necessary changes for each if necessary. On the other hand, the ma-chine detects the orientation of only the first original, and uses the detected orientation as areference for changes needed for subsequent pages. The machine uses the result of detectionto determine the following:• binding margin position• stapling position• layout orientation for reduced page compositionAs needed, the machine rotates the image, thereby reducing waste of paper. The time itsaves from not having to detect the orientation of all originals also helps increase its produc-tivity.F02-307-01Reader controller PCBFlash ROMText areaextraction blockText datastorage blockText directionidentification blockImage dataLanguage dictionariesare stored. To increase processing speed, theimage data is processed into binarydata and stored. The stored text data ismatched against thefonts in the dictionaryto find out the directionof characters. All image data iscollected, and the textarea is identified. The result of detection is sent tothe reader controller[1] 0˚[2] 90˚[3] 180˚[4] 270˚[5] not know (output as is)82Dictionarystorage block0˚90˚180˚270˚
