12English1 - PRECaUTIONS1.1 - Operating limits1.1.1 - Cooling modeMinimum supply air temperature 11 °C when the unit isinstalled where the ambient temperature is 27°C dry bulbwith 65% relative humidity.Furthermore, in steady state the ambient conditions shallnot exceed 27 °C dry bulb temperature and 65% relativehumidity. Carrier highly recommends to keep the waterinlet temperature above 5 °C.1.1.2 - Heating modeMax. supply air temperature = 60 °C to avoid damage ofthe discharge spigots. To avoid all risks of stratification,Carrier recommends to keep the supply air temperaturebelow 35 °C.Carrier highly recommends to keep the water inlettemperature below 80°C. The maximum water pressure is1550 kPa.1.1.3 - operating environmentThe 42NH has been designed for indoor application in‘urban’ conditions having a non-corrosive, dust-free andnon-marine environment. The concentrations of the following chemicals must not beexceeded in any event:• SO2 < 0.02 ppm• H2S < 0.02 ppm• NO, NO2 < 1 ppm• NH3 < 6 ppm• N2O < 0.25 ppmDo not install a unit where flammable gases or products ofan acidic or alkaline character may be present. The copper/aluminium coil or components inside the unit could sufferirreparable corrosion damage in their presence.1.1.4 - Recommended coil water qualityAt installation handover, and then periodically every year,it is advised to analyse the water for bacteria (detection offerro-bacteria, H 2S-producing and sulphate-reducingbacteria) and chemicals (in order to avoid problems due tocorrosion and scaling). The water circuit must include all the necessary elements forthe treatment of the water: filters, additives, intermediateexchangers, purges, drains, isolating valves, etc., accordingto the analysis results. The results must be in accordance with the values shownbelow:• Total hardness in mmol/l: 1 < mmol/l < 1.5• Chloride [CL-] < 10 mg/litre• Sulphate [SO42-] < 30 mg/litre• Nitrate [NO3-] = 0 mg/litre• Dissolved iron: < 0.5 mg/litre• Dissolved oxygen: 4 < [O2] < 9 mg/litre• Carbon dioxide [CO2] < 30 mg/litre• Resistivity: 20 Ohm·m < Resistivity< 50 Ohm·m• pH: 6.9 < pH < 81.2 - Clearances requiredWithout rectangular flange inlet : Fig.1With rectangular flange inlet : Fig.21.3 - Receiving a shipment - installation methodsWhen receiving a shipment, check the condition of the goodsand report any damage in transit to the shipping company.Do not unpack the units until just before they are due tobe installed, and make sure they are as close as possible tothe installation site when unpacking them. Do not placeheavy articles of any sort on them.1.4 - Supply voltage 230V (+6%; -10%) - 50 HzCheck that the supply voltage and frequency correspondto the values of the unit to be installed.WARNING: Failure to take proper account of the aboveadvice and unauthorised modification of the electricalconnections will render the Carrier warranty on the productnull and void.2 - SaFETY CONSIDERaTIONSWARNING: Switch off the main electrical power supplyto the unit and accessories (if installed) before doing anywork on the unit.2.1 - generalInstalling, commissioning and servicing of the variouscomponent (unit, control system, hot and cold water system, air distribution system) can be dangerous unless certainaspects of the installation, such as the presence of mainselectricity and hot or cold water in the air conditioningequipment, are taken into account. Only specially trainedand qualified technicians and installers who have been fullytrained on the product concerned are authorised to install, commission and service this equipment.During servicing work, it is essential to apply all recommen-dations and instructions given in service leaflets, on labelsor in the instructions delivered with the equipment, and tocomply with any other relevant instructions.Definition of the pictograms used:• Electrical danger - Fig. 3• Caution hand hazard - Fig. 4• General danger - Fig. 5Comply with all safety rules and regulations currently inforce. Wear eye protectors and work with hand gloves and anyindividual protection equipment following local legislation.Take care when moving or positioning of the equipment.2.2 - Protection against electrocutionOnly electricians qualified to the level recommended by theIEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) in itsstandard IEC 364, corresponding to Europe HD 384, FranceNFC 15 100 and UK IEE Wiring Regulations, may haveaccess to electrical components. In particular it is obligatoryto disconnect all power supplies to the unit and its accessoriesbefore carrying out any work. Disconnect the main powersupply with an isolating device (not supplied by Carrier).
