The scsisubdirectory on the diskette contains the following filesto be used with Windows NT:• aic78xx.sys — Adaptec’s 78xx series driver for Win-dows NT• oemsetup.inf — A file used by Windows NT Setupfor driver installation• readme.txt — A text file describing the Adaptec78xx driver for Windows NTIf you are performing a first-time Windows NTinstallation, see the following subsection, “InstallingWindows NT and the Driver,” to begin driver installation.If Windows NT is already installed in your system, see“Using Windows NT to Install or Update the Driver”found later in this section.Installing Windows NT and the DriverThe Windows NT 4.0 operating system has SCSI driversfor the Adaptec 78xx series of SCSI controllers integratedinto the operating system. When you load the operatingsystem software, the drivers are automatically loaded.However, Dell recommends that you update theaic78xx.sys driver using the diskette of drivers that youcreated from the Dell Server Assistant CD. To install orupdate the aic78xx.sys driver for Windows NT 4.0, see“Using Windows NT to Install or Update the Driver”found later in this section.If you are installing Windows NT 3.51, read the follow-ing section, which describes how to install theaic78xx.sys driver at the same time you install WindowsNT 3.51. If Windows NT 3.51 is already installed andyou wish to install or update the aic78xx.sys driver, see“Using Windows NT to Install or Update the Driver,”found later in this section.Performing a Windows NT 3.51 InstallationFollow these instructions only if you are installing Win-dows NT 3.51 for the first time. You can install WindowsNT 3.51 from a diskette drive or from a CD-ROM drive;whichever you choose, make sure the hardware installationis completed prior to following these steps.NOTE: An older version of the aic78xx.sys driver isincluded on the Windows NT installation diskettes (or onthe CD-ROM). To avoid loading the older driver duringWindows NT installation, use the following procedure toCAUTION: The Format Disk option destroysall data on the hard-disk drive.
