Installing and Configuring SCSI Drivers 3-11following files appear in the scsi subdirectories on bothNetWare driver diskettes:• readme.txt — An American Standard Code forInformation Interchange (ASCII) text file describingAdaptec’s drivers for NetWare• aic7870.dsk — Adaptec’s 78xx series driver forNetWare• aspitran.dsk — Adaptec’s ASPI ® transport layerdriver for NetWare• aspicd.dsk — Adaptec’s device driver for aCD-ROM driveIn addition, the scsi subdirectory on your NetWare 4.11SMP drivers diskette contains the following files:• aic7870.ddi — A driver definition information file toprovide setup information to NetWare during installa-tion; NetWare can then prompt you with parameters tobe configured for the device driver during the installa-tion process.• aspicd.ddi — A device driver definition file.• aspitran.ddi — A device driver definition file.To begin driver installation, first load the EZ-SCSI utilityas described in the following subsection “InstallingEZ-SCSI,” and then calculate the slot number asdescribed in “Calculating the Slot Number” found later inthis section. Then if you are performing a first-time Net-Ware installation, see “Installing NetWare and theDriver” found later in this section. If NetWare is alreadyinstalled in your system, see “Using NetWare to Install orUpdate the Driver” found later in this section.NOTE: Your system must have a bootable version ofMS-DOS (version 6.2x) installed before you can com-plete the Novell NetWare installation.Installing EZ-SCSIThe Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility automatically configures thecomputer to use an Adaptec SCSI host adapter and thedevices connected to it. The Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility alsocopies applications and device drivers to the computer’shard-disk drive. The configuration and installation processis explained with a series of screens. In most cases, thecomputer and SCSI devices are configured to take fulladvantage of all the performance benefits of SCSI whenyou accept the default values suggested by these screens.Follow these steps to install the Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility:1. If you have not already done so, create anAdaptec EZ-SCSI diskette for the version of Net-Ware you are using.Chapter 2, “Using the Dell Server Assistant CD,”provides instructions for creating this diskette.2. Insert your Adaptec EZ-SCSI diskette into dis-kette drive A.3. Type dosinst and press .A message appears while the EZ-SCSI utility loadsinto memory.4. When the first EZ-SCSI screen appears, read thetext carefully.You can press on any screen for additionalhelp. (Press to exit a Help screen.)5. Press to continue with the installation.6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.Press at every screen to accept theEZ-SCSI default values.If you accept all the default values, the EZ-SCSI util-ity copies the files from the diskette to the c:\scsidirectory. (The EZ-SCSI utility creates this directoryif the directory does not already exist.) The EZ-SCSIutility also adds command lines to your computer’sconfiguration files (autoexec.bat and/or config.sys)that will load the required device drivers into mem-ory when you boot your computer.7. Press to continue after the EZ-SCSI utilityenters changes to your system configuration files.If you want to copy the files to a different directoryor control the changes to your configuration files,follow the instructions on the screen. Press onany screen to see more information.NOTE: If the EZ-SCSI utility is unable to locate themscdex.exe file in the c:\dos directory, it will promptfor a pathname to access this file. (Without this file, theutility cannot access the computer’s CD-ROM drive.)8. When the message (Adaptec EZ-SCSI hasbeen successfully installed…)appearson the screen, press or to exit theEZ-SCSI utility, and remove the Adaptec EZ-SCSI diskette from the drive. Then reboot yourcomputer by pressing .
