8ENGLISHEasy Setup and Operation Easy Setup and OperationENGLISHThe Auto Setup and Room EQ function of this unitperforms an analysis of the speaker system andmeasures the acoustic characteristics of your room topermit an appropriate automatic setting. The AVC-A11XV’s Audyssey MultEQ XT function hasthe feature that it provides the optimum listeningenvironment at all listening positions in the hometheater, where there are often multiple listenersviewing programs together. To achieve this, it is firstnecessary to use a microphone to measure test tonesgenerated from the different speakers at the variouslistening positions. All this measured data is analyzedwith a unique method to comprehensively improveacoustic characteristics in the listening area. Foroptimum effectiveness, measurements should beperformed at six or more points. Move themicrophone successively within the listening areasurrounded by the speakers as shown on the diagrambelow to measure the test tones. When listening tomusic or viewing movies with the whole family, movethe microphone successively to the different positionsin which the members of the family sit (“ ” on thediagram indicates the points of installation) andmeasure repeatedly (Example q). Even if the numberof people using the home theater is small, takingmultiple measurements at or near the listeningpositions makes it possible to correct the sound moreeffectively (Example w).The AVC-A11XV’s Room EQ function offers threecorrection curves: “Audyssey”, “Front” and “Flat”.These can be selected after performing the auto setupprocedure. Details of the different correction curvesare described below.• Audyssey:This adjusts the frequency response of all speakersto correct the effects of room acoustics.• Front:This adjusts the characteristics of each speaker tothe characteristics of the front speakers.• Flat:This the frequency response of all speakers flat. This is suitable for multi-channel music reproduction, from discrete music sources such as Dolby Digital5.1, DTS, DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD.Example: w* MExample: q* MAuto Setup / Room EQ2 About the main listening position(*M)The main listening position is the point where alistener sits most often or the listening position whenonly one person is listening. Measurements on theAVC-A11XV start from this point. Correction for thespeaker distance (“Delay Time”) is set based on thispoint.Connecting a microphone1 Connect the optional microphone forAuto Setup to the SETUP MIC jack onthe front panel of the unit.2 Mount the auto setup microphone ontoa camera tripod, etc., and place it at earheight at the main listening position inthe listening room with the soundreceptor facing the ceiling.MicrophoneAMPONSETUPENTERCURSORON/STANDBYPOWERCURSORSETUPENTER SETUP MICNOTE:• Do not disconnect the microphone until thesettings are completed.• Do not change the connection of speakers or thesubwoofer’s volume after performing thesemeasurements. When placing the microphone, adjust the heightso that the microphone’s sound receptor is at theheight of the ears of the listener.Be sure that at the beginning, the measurementis started with the microphone set up at the mainlistening position. It is not possible to measure properly if there areany obstacles between the speakers andmicrophone. Check that there are no obstacles. Please do not stand between or near thespeakers and the microphone during themeasurements.• To make the Speaker system settings without usingthe Auto Setup function ( page 53 ~ 57).• When performing Auto Setup, an optionalmicrophone is required for setup.MEMO
