ENGLISH6ENGLISHEasy Setup and Operation Easy Setup and OperationSpeaker connections• Connect the speaker terminals with the speakersmaking sure that like polarities are matched (< with<, > with >). Mismatching of polarities will resultin weak central sound, unclear orientation of thevarious instruments, and the sense of direction ofthe stereo being impaired.• When making connections, take care that none ofthe individual conductors of the speaker cable comein contact with adjacent terminals, with otherspeaker cable conductors, or with the rear panel.NOTE:NEVER touch the speaker terminals when thepower is on. Doing so could result in electricshocks.2 Speaker Impedance• Speakers with an impedance of from 6 to 16 Ω/ohmscan be connected for use as front, center, surroundand surround back speakers.• Be careful when using two pairs of surroundspeakers (A + B) at the same time, since use ofspeakers with an impedance of less than 8 Ω/ohmswill lead to damage.• The protector circuit may be activated if the set isplayed for long periods of time at high volumeswhen speakers with an impedance lower than thespecified impedance are connected.Connecting the speaker cables1. Loosen by turningcounterclockwise.2. Insert the cable.3. Tighten by turningclockwise.Either tightly twist or terminate thecore wires.Protector circuitThis unit is equipped with a high-speed protectioncircuit. The purpose of this circuit is to protect thespeakers under circumstances such as when theoutput of the power amplifier is inadvertentlyshort-circuited and a large current flows, when thetemperature surrounding the unit becomesunusually high, or when the unit is used at highoutput over a long period which results in anextreme temperature rise. When the protection circuit is activated, thespeaker output is cut off and the power supplyindicator flashes. Should this occur, please followthese steps: be sure to switch off the power ofthis unit, check whether there are any faults withthe wiring of the speaker cables or input cables, and wait for the unit to cool down if it is very hot.Improve the ventilation condition around the unitand switch the power back on.If the protection circuit is activated again eventhough there are no problems with the wiring orthe ventilation around the unit, switch off thepower and contact a DENON service center.Note on speaker impedanceThe protector circuit may be activated if the set isplayed for long periods of time at high volumeswhen speakers with an impedance lower than thespecified impedance (for example speakers withan impedance of lower than 4 Ω/ohms) areconnected. If the protector circuit is activated, thespeaker output is cut off. Turn off the set’s power, wait for the set to cool down, improve theventilation around the set, then turn the powerback on.2 Connections• The AVC-A11XV can be configured for 10 speaker playback using two pairs of surround speakers (A+B) and onepair of surround back speakers as shown below.• The output of each power amplifier can be assigned to any desired channel to best suit the application. For details, refer to “Setting the Channel Setup” and “Setting the Power Amplifier Assignment” ( page 49,50).• When making connections, also refer to the operating instructions of the other components.> < < >> <> <> < > < < >< >< >IN(L)(R)(R) (R) (L)(L)(L)(R)Connection terminalfor subwoofer withbuilt-in amplifier(subwoofer), etc.Surroundleft speaker(A)SubwooferFrontright speaker• Precautions when connectingspeakersIf a speaker is placed near a TV or video monitor, the colors on the screen may be disturbed bythe speaker’s magnetism. If this should happen, move the speaker away to a position where itdoes not have this effect.Surroundleft speaker (B)Surround backleft speakerNOTE:• When using only one surround back speaker, connect it to left channel.Frontleft speakerCenterspeakerSurround backright speakerSurroundright speaker (B)Surroundright speaker(A)
