7. Carefully transport the control to a suitableservice facility.Figure 35. Side swing-panel view of Form 4D pole-mountrecloser controlPreliminary testing with no AC availableIf the Form 4D control is not in service and requiresenergization for preliminary testing, it can be powered upwith battery power only.1. Open the swing panel and locate the push-button switchrecessed inside the control side panel (Figure 36).Figure 36. Location of push-button switch on the Form4D control side-panel for power-up with battery poweronly. (Insete: DIN rail terminal block tool)2. Momentarily (4-5 seconds) press the switch with anon-conductive tool such as the DIN rail terminal blocktool included with the control (Figure 36 inset). Thecontrol will power up.3. To power down the Form 4D control, unplug the battery(disconnect the black/red battery connector).4. Perform a battery charging cycle. Refer to BatteryCharging in the Battery Test and ChargingProcedures section of these instructions.IMPORTANTWhile the Form 4D control is powered in this manner, the control battery is being continuously discharged. When the battery voltage drops below 21v DC for 60seconds, the control will automatically power down.If the battery is left in a discharged condition, thebattery(s) will sustain permanent irreversible damage. Therefore, a battery charging cycle should always beperformed after this procedure to bring the battery(s)back up to full charge.Testing with type MET testerThe Type MET electronic recloser control tester (Figure 37)is used for testing the following functions of the Form 4Drecloser control:●● Overcurrent Timing.●● Reclose Time.●● Operating Sequence.●● Reset Time.●● Minimum Trip Current.●● High Current Trip and Lockout. The MET Tester is completely self-contained, capable ofperforming all required checks and tests from a simpleverification of operation to a complete verification of alloperating parameters.Refer to Service Information S280-76-1 Type MET ElectronicRecloser Control Tester Operating Instructions for propersetup and use of the MET Tester.Figure 37.
