A 75 kA transformer of the proper voltage rating withan impedance drop of approximately 3% is satisfactory. TheAC source must have a comparable impedance drop.WARNINgHazardous voltage. Interconnect source leads X and Yand ground solidly to the recloser tank (Figure 40).Do not connect lead Z to any other phase or mechanicalground. Dangerous voltages to ground exist onthe phase connected to lead Z. Solidly ground allequipment. Failure to comply can result in severepersonal injury and/or equipment damage. T224.1WARNINgHazardous voltage. The switchgear (apparatus andcontrol) and high-voltage transformer must be in a testcage or similar protected area to prevent accidentalcontact with the high-voltage parts.Solidly ground all equipment. Failure to complycan result in death, severe personal injury, andequipment damage. T221.5A test circuit for these solenoid-closed reclosers is shownin Figure 40. The following equipment is required for therecommended shop testing setup:otee:N Solenoid-closed reclosers equipped with a 120- or240- VAC low-voltage closing coil accessory can betested as shown in Figure 41.●● Variable Autotransformer T1, 230 Volts, 20 Amps.●● Low-Voltage transformer T2 to simulate fault conditions.● Ratio and size will depend upon the maximum currentto be used. The recloser presents a low impedance tothe transformer, so secondary voltage must be onlyhigh enough to force the required current through thesecondary of the transformer and the recloser.otee:N An alternative method of providing the necessarycurrent through the transformer is shown in Figure 39.●● High-Voltage T3 to operate the closing solenoid.● The closing coil requirement is approximately 200 kVAduring the two-to-three cycle closing operation. Thesolenoid coil operating voltage must be maintained at therecloser bushings during the cycle interval the closingcoil is energized. This procedure is not used on reclosersequipped with the low-voltage closing accessory.●● Ammeter with a rating based on the level of testcurrent.●● Current-actuated timer.5 63 41 2CBABYPASS SWITCHES(CLOSED)SOURCE SIDEDISCONNECT SWITCHES(CLOSED)LOAD SIDEDISCONNECT SWITCHES(OPEN)CLOSINGCOILLOADSOURCESOURCELOADFigure 38.
