The front panel LCD display is used to configure theoperating settings for the control. It is also used to displaymetering, counter information, control parameters, alarms, and sequence of events.Control parameters can also be programmed via a personalcomputer connected to the control through the frontpanel USB port or the communications boards. Controlprogramming, interrogation, and operations are performedwith Form 4D ProView NXGTM interface software ona computer.ProView interface program software includes additionalfunctions used to create and graphically display TimeCurrent Curves, configurable sequence of events and alarmdata, and selectable communication points for serial (DNP,Modbus, IEC 61850, 2179, IEC 60870-5-101) and Ethernetcommunication(DNP3 IP, IEC 60870-5-104).The control operates on 50 and 60 Hz systems.Theory of operationA functional block diagram of the Form 4D recloser controlis shown in Figure 2. Current sensing is provided by threecurrent transformers located in the recloser and interfaced tothe Form 4D recloser control via the control cable. This cablealso supplies Trip, Close, and Recloser status, and providesisolation for reliable operation. Voltages for metering areconnected to the control through the cabinet harness.Line current flowing through the recloser is convertedto a digital signal suitable for metering and fault currentcalculations. Data sampling occurs at a rate of 64 times percycle. The control contains a data acquisition section thatuses the acquired samples to compute the fundamentalcurrents and voltage for use in overcurrent, under/overvoltage, and under/overfrequency protection, as well ascurrents and voltages for metering functions. The currentsare calculated four times a cycle for overcurrent protection. The current only includes the fundamental frequencycurrent and does not include harmonics or DC.TRIP SOLENOIDCLOSE SOLENOIDA Ø CTB Ø CTC Ø CTOPEN / CLOSESWITCHESCT COMMONRECLOSERAC INPUTPOWERBATTERYINTERCONNECTBOARDI/O BOARDFRONTPANELUSB CLIENT(PROVIEW NXG)USERCONNECTIONS COMMUNICATIONSBOARD ACCY (OPTIONAL)•RS-232•RS-485•SERIAL FIBER•ETHERNET (WIRED)•ETHERNET (FIBER)OPTIONAL INTERNALVOLTAGE SENSING4 inputs 4 outputsUSB HOST(MEMORY STICK)DIGITALANALOG BOARDPOWERSUPPLYRECLOSERINTERFACEANALOG INPUTSIGNAL CONDITIONINGTB1OUTLETACCESSORYI/O BOARDOPTIONALADD-ONSAUXILIARYPOWER SUPPLYHEATERFigure 2.
