Inverter OperationPower Xpert Solar 1500/1670 kW Inverter MN141001EN—October 2014 www.eaton.com 29Inverter OperationThe inverter’s installation, operation, and maintenance isintended for qualified personnel who are trained forelectrical-power systems used within the inverter, themedium-voltage transformer, and 1,000-volt photovoltaicsystems. The inverter can connect to medium voltage up to35 k, with the appropriate transformer. The installation isintended for licensed electrical contractors, employingqualified master and journeymen electrical techniciansfamiliar with 1000 V PV systems.DANGER of Electric Shock HazardWARNING!CAUTION!NOTICE!Operation of the inverter, energizing both the PV and ACcircuits, switching circuit breakers and interacting with theinverter, its control power, the transformer and its utilityconnection, and all connected PV equipment requiresadherence to electrical safety guidelines, as set forth in theNEC, NFPA70E, OSHIA, and all local, regional, utility, andcompany(s) policies.Photovoltaic inverters utilize both DC and AC voltages andare subject to external backfeed-voltage and energy sourcesfrom the PV array, transformer, other inverters, and ACswitchboards and switchgear at the site. Understand thedisconnecting means available at the site, both PV (DC) andAC is paramount to safe work practices.Pay attention to all AC and DC arc-flash and electric-shockequipment labels, their indicated working and boundarydistances, and all posted safety notices and labels.Non-labeled equipment must be evaluated prior to work.Damaged or missing arc-flash and electric-shock labelingshall and must be replaced.Do not proceed to the install, energize or operate the inverterunless authorized.Pre-Commission CheckPrior to energizing the inverter for the first time, complete athorough inspection. Verify that incoming and outgoing wiresand conductors are properly terminated andsecuring-fasteners torqued. Check that the inlet and outlet airducts are not blocked and the filter material is clean and inplace. Verify that all tools used in the installation areremoved, any protective and safety covers that wereremoved during non-energized installation tasks are properlyre-installed, and any debris from the installation process isremoved from within and around the inverter. The immediatearea shall be clear from obstructions. Maintain theequipment-clearance requirements as per Code and Table 5on Page 15, utilizing whichever is the maximum distance.Never use compressed air to remove debris from inside oroutside the inverter. To prevent damage to inverter-controllers, circuit-boards, andelectronic components, use only ESD-free Vacuumequipment to clean inside the inverter and the air-filters.Notice: Damage to components due to ElectrostaticDischarge (ESD) is not covered by warranty.Never use water to clean or allow water or fluids to enter theinverter cabinets.Working from the solar modules, ensure all strings andsource-combiners are properly wired. Verify no PV-positiveand PV-negative conductors are reversed. Continue thispolarity-check procedure for all array re-or-sub combiners andexternal PV-disconnects. Leave the PV-source combiners orfinal/last photovoltaic-disconnecting-means (external to theinverter) OFF (open circuit) prior to commissioning andoperating the inverter. At the inverter, verify the PV-positive and PV-negativeconductors are properly wired for polarity and securelyterminated. Ensure all equipment ground circuits are installedand the PV system is properly bonded to the GET andestablishes the required PV grounding electrode system asper Code. Only when the PV circuits are verified, shall theinverter be energized.Prior to scheduling inverter commissioning services, obtainfrom Eaton and complete the:Power Xpert Solar 1500/1670 kW InvertersPre-Commissioning Installation ChecklistHave this completed form available, or return this completedform to Eaton, to ensure efficient on-site invertercommissioning service. Allow at least 2 weeks forcommissioning services after completing thepre-commissioning installation checklist and scheduling theservice.Note: Due to the nature of PV systems, invertercommissioning is only conducted during dry weather. |
