Forcing the handle will damage the door lock mechanism.The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.Before a Clean CycleFor the first self-clean cycle, we recommendventing your kitchen with an open windowor using a ventilation fan or hood.Remove the broiler pan, broiler grid, allcookware, probe and any aluminum foilfrom the oven—they cannot withstand thehigh cleaning temperatures.NOTE: If your oven is equipped with nickel ovenshelves, remove them before you beginthe self-clean cycle. If your oven is equipped with grayporcelain-coated oven shelves, they maybe left in the oven during the self-cleancycle.Soil on the front frame of the range andoutside the gasket on the door will need tobe cleaned by hand. Clean these areas withhot water, soap-filled scouring pads orcleansers such as Soft Scrub®. Rinse wellwith clean water and dry.Do not clean the gasket. The fiberglassmaterial of the oven door gasket cannotwithstand abrasion. It is essential for thegasket to remain intact. If you notice itbecoming worn or frayed, replace it.Wipe up any heavy spillovers on the ovenbottom.Make sure the oven light bulb cover is inplace and the oven light is off.IMPORTANT: The health of some birdsis extremely sensitive to the fumes givenoff during the self-cleaning cycle of anyrange. Move birds to another wellventilated room.NOTE: Use caution when opening the upperoven after the self-clean cycle has ended.The oven may still be hot.Wipe up heavy soil on the ovenbottom.How to Set the Upper Oven for CleaningIf your model has a latch, latch thedoor.Touch the SELF CLEAN pad.Using the number pads, enter thedesired clean time, if a time otherthan 4 hours is needed.Clean cycle time is normally 4 hours. Youcan change the clean time to any timebetween 3 hours and 5 hours, dependingon how dirty your oven is.Touch the START pad.On models without a door latch, the doorlocks automatically. The display will showthe clean time remaining. It will not bepossible to open the oven door until thetemperature drops below the locktemperature and the LOCKED DOORlight goes off.The oven shuts off automatically when theclean cycle is complete.When the LOCKED DOOR light is off,slide the latch handle to the left as faras it will go and open the door. If yourrange does not have a latch, the doorwill unlock automatically. The words LOCK DOOR will flash andthe oven control will signal if you setthe clean cycle and forget to close theoven door or forget to latch the dooron models with a latch. To stop a clean cycle, touch theCLEAR/OFF pad.
