8Throughout this manual, features and appearance may vary from your model.How to Light a Gas Surface BurnerMake sure all the surface burners areplaced in their respective positions.Push the control knob in and turn it tothe LITE position.You will hear a little clicking noise—the sound of the electric spark ignitingthe burner.Turn the knob to adjust the flame size.If the knob stays at LITE, it will continueto click.When one burner is turned to LITE, allthe burners spark. Do not attempt todisassemble or clean around any burnerwhile another burner is on. An electricshock may result, which could cause youto knock over hot cookware.Push the control knob in and turn itto the LITE position.How to Select Flame SizeFor safe handling of cookware, never let the flamesextend up the sides of the cookware.Watch the flame, not the knob, as youreduce heat. When fast heating is desired,the flame size on a gas burner shouldmatch the cookware you are using.Flames larger than the bottom of thecookware will not result in faster heating ofthe cookware and could be hazardous.Before Lighting a Gas Burner Make sure all burners are in place. Make sure all grates on the range areproperly placed before using any burner.After Lighting a Gas Burner Do not operate the burner for anextended period of time withoutcookware on the grate. The finish onthe grate may chip without cookwareto absorb the heat. Be sure the burners and grates are coolbefore you place your hand, a pot holder,cleaning cloths or other materials onthem.Sealed Gas BurnersYour gas range cooktop has five sealedgas burners. They offer convenience,cleanability and flexibility to be used ina wide range of cooking applications.The smallest burner in the right rearposition is the simmer burner. This burnercan be turned down to LO for a very lowsimmer setting. It provides precise cookingperformance for delicate foods such assauces or foods that require low heat for along cooking time.The medium (left rear) and the large(left front) burners are the primary burnersfor most cooking. These general-purposeburners can be turned down from HI to LOto suit a wide range of cooking needs.The extra large burner (right front) is themaximum output burner. Like the otherfour burners, it can be turned downfrom HI to LO for a wide range of cookingapplications; however, this burner isdesigned to quickly bring large amounts ofliquid to a boil.
